In Our Words When facing debilitating depression and anxiety, Paula came to the DeKalb Regional Crisis Center. The staff referred her to the North DeKalb Mental Health Center where she found the help she needed to reclaim her life.  For nearly four decades, the Hogan family has chosen our agency to provide care for their son Bill. Through the sheltered employment and residential apartment programs, Bill achieves greater independence as he lives and works in the community.  Transformation takes place in group therapy. These four ladies who attend an group for mental health and substance abuse recovery at a DeKalb CSB outpatient site asked to share their stories. During their times together, they have wept, laughed and encouraged each other to achieve their goals.  In 2010, Ellen introduced Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter at a nonprofit fundraiser dinner. This request was both an incredible honor for Ellen and a tribute to her own amazing recovery story. Read how DeKalb CSB played a part in her journey.  When Jackie gave birth to her son Donald, the doctor said her baby would not live 24 hours. More than 30 years later, Donald is living proof that the doctor's predictions were wrong. Jackie shares their heart warming story and what the DeKalb Community Service Board's CHOICE program means to Donald.  With a year of sobriety under her belt, Regina is back in the workforce after a 10 year absence. Admitting her addiction was Regina's first step toward freedom. Hear how DeKalb CSB's DeKalb Addiction Clinic provided her the help she needed.  Patty is a devoted mother who has gained peace of mind since her two sons started attending the DeKalb Services Center 27 years ago. The center is a DeKalb Community Service Board day program for more than 100 adults with developmental disabilities.  Frank found himself at a crossroads and chose a path he will never regret. Three years ago, he sought mental health and substance abuse services from the DeKalb Community Service Board. Today Frank is pursuing a new career to help others in recovery.  CNN interviewed DeKalb CSB employee Felicia Anderson about her recovery from drug addiction. Felicia shares her inspirational journey of healing from the tragic death of her husband, overcoming addiction and a new life for her daughters. |
