Psychosocial
Rehabilitation Services
Psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) services are provided to adult mental
health consumers at three DeKalb CSB sites. Each program is self-contained
in that a day program, case management, psychiatric and nursing services
are provided. Access to pharmacy services is via DeKalb CSB pharmacies
located at the four mental health centers.
As stated in
the Georgia Medicaid Guidelines, "Psychosocial rehabilitation
(PSR) is an organized program based on psychosocial rehabilitation
philosophy, principles and values to assist persons with long-term
psychiatric disabilities increase their functioning so that they
are successful and satisfied in the environments of their choice
with the least amount of ongoing professional intervention".
The fundamental
focus of PSR services is two-fold. First, it is the rehabilitation
of people experiencing the negative effects of a serious and persistent
mental illness. Second, it is teaching and reinforcing recovery
skills so people can manage their illness, increase their self-reliance
and improve the quality of their life. Services focus on strengths
rather than deficits and on people's ability rather than disability.
Psychosocial
Rehabilitation Services are offered at four locations across DeKalb
County including: North DeKalb, Central
DeKalb, The Kirkwood Center and Crossroads.
