Peer
and Supported Employment
Crossroads
Peer and Supported Employment
Crossroads Peer and Supported Employment is a mental health support
service established for adults (18 years of age and older) diagnosed
with a severe and persistent mental illness and who are enrolled with
the DeKalb CSB.
Crossroads
provides peer support and employment support services that are recovery
focused. Consumers can use one or both of these services to develop
their strengths and abilities to recover from the effects of mental
illness. Crossroads is geared towards individuals who are serious
about their recovery and need social support and a daily routine,
assistance to build job readiness skills, assistance to upgrade education,
assistance with referral to Vocational Rehabilitation services, and
self-help skill reinforcement.
Peer
Support
The Adult Peer Support services provide structured, scheduled activities
that promote socialization, recovery, self-advocacy, development
of natural supports, and maintenance of community living skills
at a location in which consumers can meet and provide mutual support.
Consumers actively participate in decision making and the operation
of the programmatic supports. These services are often coupled with
other services such as case management and supported employment.
Employment
Support
The Employment Support services help people go to work in community-based
jobs that are tailored to their choice and abilities. Employment
is a major activity that adds meaning and quality to life and allows
people to be more independent and self-reliant. The employment support
needs of each person vary in intensity from off-site contact to
side by side job coaching. Pre-vocational experiences are provided
so people can prepare for and find work.
