Technology Service Day Comes to DeKalb CSB
DECATUR, Georgia - Hands on Atlanta, Deloitte and
IBM will join together on Saturday, March 18 for the 6th annual
Technology Service Day, a day of volunteer service to aid in increasing
the use of technology for non-profits and schools. The DeKalb Community
Service Board's CHOICE (Choosing Habilitation Opportunities in Community
Environments) Program, located at 440 Winn Way in Decatur, will
be one of the beneficiaries of Technology Service Day. The company
ClarityMatters, Inc., volunteering through Hands on Atlanta, will
replace the computers that Hands on Atlanta previously donated with
more updated equipment. They will also donate a scanner as well
as provide a hands-on computer training to five of the CHOICE consumers
who expressed interest in computers. Hands on Atlanta will donate
a laptop which can be utilized by a consumer in a wheelchair.
The CHOICE Program is a community based day habilitation program
for individuals with developmental disabilities. As its name suggests,
the CHOICE Program is intended to serve individuals with developmental
disabilities who choose an alternative approach to day services.
The program is unique because individuals are involved in planning
their daily activities. Since CHOICE is a community-based program,
consumers receiving either Day Support or Day Habilitation services
are involved in meaningful community activities with non-disabled
adults on a daily basis. Some of the community-integrated services
include volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, Wonderland Gardens,
FODAC (Friends of Disabled Adults and Children), Little Creek Horse
Farm, Medshare International, The Home Depot and local churches.
The CHOICE Program is part of the DeKalb Community Service Board,
providing mental health, developmental disabilities and addictive
diseases services. To access services call (404) 892-4646.
