Contacts with the criminal justice system by persons with mental
illness and/or addiction and their families are often overwhelming.
The criminal justice system includes the courts, the District Attorney,
the Public Defender; the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department and
the DeKalb County Police Department.
The DeKalb CSB provides clinical services for the jail diversion
or mental health court that operates under the jurisdiction of the
DeKalb County Magistrate Court; the drug court operated by the DeKalb
County Superior Court that mandates treatment for repeat offenders;
two DUI Supervised Treatment Courts operated by DeKalb County State
Court; the DeKalb County Juvenile Drug Treatment Program; and the
IMPACT Program for youth returning to their community from the Department
of Juvenile Justice. In partnership with the Sheriff of DeKalb County,
the DeKalb CSB operates substance abuse rehabilitation programs
for men and women in the DeKalb County Jail.
