Services
For adults challenged
with substance misuse or abuse, the least intensive services is provided
by the Court Services Program components which include substance abuse
education and intervention, risk reduction classes (DUI school), multiple
offender evaluations, employee assistance program and domestic violence/anger
management classes.
All participants receive the NEEDS assessment that determines the
ASAM level of care indicated. The substance abuse classes are ASAM
Level 0.5, early intervention.
Risk Reduction Classes
The Risk Reduction Classes (DUI School) follow the state licensed
and regulated Prime for Life Program, which is a mandated 20-hour
course and is taught by a state, licensed Risk Reduction Instructor.
Pre-Trial
Intervention Program
The Pre-Trial Intervention Program serves as the front door for
the criminal justice system to the DeKalb CSB. Individuals who are
interviewed and deemed appropriate by the DeKalb Magistrate Court
Pre-Trial case management staff will be referred to Court Services
for assessment prior to appearing in court. This Intervention Program
will provide the Pre-Trial case management staff, with the consent
of the referred individual, recommendations as a result of their
initial needs assessment. This Program will also offer education
and intervention classes to meet the requirements of the courts.
STEPS Prevention Classes
The STEPS Prevention Classes are for youth ages 13 to 21 who have
experimented with alcohol and/or drugs or have peers who are involved
with alcohol and/or drugs. The two program components are Prime
for Life Under The STEPS Prevention Classes are for youth ages 13
to 21 who have experimented with alcohol and/or drugs or have peers
who are involved with alcohol and/or drugs. The two program components
are Prime for Life Under 21 and the CAPES (Chemical Awareness Education
Series). These two services are mobile, "your place or ours".
Parenting Connection
The Parenting Connection Classes are in conjunction with the STEPS
Prevention classes for the parents of the juveniles in the STEPS
program. The classes are held at the Juvenile Court Annex. The Parenting
Connection classes are based on the parent's needs, learning style,
and desired goal. It allows parents to view common daily problems
enacted video scenes. The program teaches valuable communication
and behavior management skills including co-assertive discipline,
"I" statements, supervision of schoolwork and peers, and
positive modeling.
