Child
and Adolescent Services
Child and Adolescent Services programs are comprised of outpatient
programs, after-school day treatment programs, therapeutic foster
care and respite
programs, and
community support services. Assessment services are also provided
at the DeKalb County Juvenile Court, at the Department of Family
and Children Services, and at the Department of Juvenile Justice's
Regional Youth Detention Center. Each
treatment program offers an array of specific services which are
designed to comprehensively meet the child and family's mental,
emotional, and behavioral health needs, in the least restrictive
and most cost-effective way possible.
Because the
treatment literature has demonstrated that the most desired outcomes
are achieved when children are treated within the context of their
different environments, every effort is made to ensure that all
significant others- family members, school personnel, health care
staff, or any other people having regular and meaningful contact
with the child or adolescent- are in some way included in the course
of treatment.
Children and
adolescents between the ages of three and eighteen are eligible
for these services if assessed and determined to have a DSM-IV Axis
I diagnosis which indicates severe emotional disturbance, response
to trauma, mood disorder, behavioral disorder, or some combination
of these categories.
