NIDRR is a government agency that sponsors and disseminates research on disability rehabilitation (in areas such as employment; health and function; technology for access and function; independent living and community integration, etc.) with the goal of helping disabled people to 'perform their regular activities in the community and to bolster society’s ability to provide full opportunities and appropriate supports for its disabled citizens'. President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities
The Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on matters relating to programs and services for persons with intellectual disabilities. Since 1974, the Committee has organized national planning, stimulated development of plans, policies and programs and advanced the concept of community participation in the field of intellectual disabilities.
